OUR VISION
At St. Luke's, we base our philosophies of worship, ministry, and community on seven foundations.
Each of our values are explained in terms of what we believe and what we do to exercise each belief.
Contagious Christianity
We exist to help people embrace Jesus more fully. This means:
• Adapting our patterns of worship and church life to be culturally relevant and accessible to pre-Christians, whenever it can be done without compromise to essential doctrine. • Providing opportunities for members to build intentional relationships with the unchurched and training them to effectively share their faith. • Joy as a hallmark of our life together. Not only do we pray hard, we play hard God's Work, Done God's Way, Through God's Power
We exist to fulfill God's will. This means:
• Seeking to find what God is doing and to join Him in His work. • An emphasis on learning AND applying Biblical truths to every area of our lives. • An emphasis on prayer first. In our life together decisions are made only after a season of prayer. • An expectation of the miraculous. Because this is God's work, He will bless it. Anglican Spirituality as our Heritage
• Exposing people to the richness available in the traditions of Anglicanism.
• Using the church year and seasons as tools to order our piety and life together. • Using the Book of Common Prayer as a tool to order our worship. • Using the Sacraments as the means of experiencing God's transforming power. • Submitting to the Providence of Uganda, Diocese of South Ruwenzori as our spiritual covering and authority. |
Ministry By, and For, the People
We exist to help followers of Jesus to develop the ministry God is calling them to. This means:
• A commitment to help each member discover and use his or her spiritual gifts to realize their baptismal vows and find a ministry that fits their personality, opportunities and skills. • Clergy leadership primarily defined as equipping laity to do the work of the ministry. Christ With a Skin Face
We exist to show Christ's love through acts of mercy. This means:
• Identifying and seeking to meet the felt needs of people in our community. • A commitment to embrace those that Christ embraced, especially those with needs who may be rejected by our society — for example, the poor, the sick, the prisoner. Worship With the Whole Self
We exist to have a relationship with God that brings Him Glory and engages our heart, head and body. This means worship that is:
• Centered on experiencing God's presence and pleasing Him. • Joyful, even exuberant at times. • Designed to engage the mind and stimulates reflection and insight. |
Real People, in Real Relationships, Serving a Real God
We exist to reveal the love of God through the quality of our relationships. This means:
• Community-building through the multiplication of small groups that build relationships where I can share honestly, my deepest dreams are encouraged, my deepest needs are cared for, and I am challenged to be all that God has called me to be.
• Creating environments where people feel it is safe to share their failures.
• Accepting people as they are, while encouraging them to grow more into the image of Christ.
