Praise Team St. Luke’s Anglican
“We creatively seek to praise God with music and to joyfully worship Him with all that we are.”
Our role on the worship team is to convey the message of the music through the words and inspire those who have come to St. Luke’s to join in the song of worship. This role requires humility, a willing heart, and practice. We have to come to understand and acknowledge that at every point God is the one in control and whatever He is leading us to do, we have that split second to decide to draw nearer. We have the privilege and joy to follow Him in leading His people in worship of Him. Humility is key while doing this. Humility requires us to lay down our own desires, opinions and feelings and focus on what God wants to accomplish and how we can be a part of that.
Secondly, we open our hearts to each other and are willing to become vessels in order to communicate the words and message of the music. That message has the power to set us, and others, free from the chains of this world so we ask God to Inhabit the Praise of His People and we surrender what may get in the way of what He wants to do in us, and then in the congregation.
As singers, and instrumentalists -- we are musicians who have been given a gift to creatively bring the sacrifice of praise. We learn and develop our music well - melodies and harmonies and where they are appropriate; dynamics, structure of the song as it is recorded and/or as Chris directs it; phrasing and rhythm. (in our group the written music is only optional) We are delivering the message of the song so we have to know it well! We learn to blend with each other as vocalists and with the team as a whole. We try to listen closely to each other's tone and volume. The goal, together, is to try to sound as much like one person as possible. Then our voices can blend to join The Cloud of Witnesses … sometimes it seems as if the angels are singing with us. That is how practice works for us … and it is delightfully fun.
Thank you for your prayers and support this past year !!
